In July 1998, Make a Wish Foundation of New Hampshire her and her parents to Disney World where Carissa met 'the real Winnie the Pooh.' She talked of her 'wish trip' till the day she died. In September 1998, Carissa had a bone marrow transplant in Boston Childrens Hospital where she spent several months recovering. April 1999 Carissa relaped again, but this time the doctors couldn't do anything for her. She knew she was dying, so the 4 year old spent the last 5 months of her life doing everything she wanted to do from shopping trips to Walmart and Toys R Us, to going to church or just watching the Disney channel. Carissa was a fighter. She didn't want to give up. But on September 29, 1999 God saw fit to take Carissa to heaven. She isn't in pain. She has a new body. She is happy there. I love her and I miss her, but I know that someday I will see her again. At her funeral the verse they chose for her was II Timothy 4:7-8 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness. If you would like to make a Donation to Make a Wish Foundation of NH in memory of Carissa, they can be sent to: Make-A-Wish Foundation 66 Hanover Street Suite 101 Manchester, NH 03101-2230 The money will go to help another child's wish come true with a life threatening or terminal disease like Carissa.
